That Inner Story

“What screws us up most in life is the picture in our head of how it’s supposed to be.” – Unknown

Which is another way of pointing out it’s ok to have expectations as long as you know they rarely become truthful. Particularly when we have expectations of self and others. Expectations seem to speak to the future, we cannot know the future so we make it up, things that are made up are not real, so have little chance of becoming actual. I don’t feel I will be capable of not having expectations of people, places, events, and things. But, I can start to see when my thoughts turn to future expectations and see them as stories about endless possibilities.

Be kind to you today,

Bryan Wagner

  1. Yes, expectations as we’ve been warned has proven to lead to disappointment, yet still we can’t help but expect. When it’s difficult to act any differently, I continue in my expectations with awareness of possible disappointment.
