Should or Should have

“At some point you just have to let go of what you thought should happen and live in what is happening.” – Anonymous

There is a tendency, at least in the spiritual communities, to present this as some kind of choice. So the “choice” is to either live in a fantasy world built on delusional conditioned reactions or to accept that everything, right now, exactly as it is in the moment.

The problem appears to be, for many of us, we believe that our fantasy world built on delusions is real. And we can change it by thinking about it.

For me, as soon as the words “should” or “should have appear,” I know I’m in fantasy land and reality needs to be different than it presents. I can’t tell you how much time I have used thinking about an alternate timeline where things are as they “should be.” Sigh. I think I finally noticed when I’m trapped in “should” there are no resolutions to what may be in front of me. When I accept life just as it presents in this moment, then I can explore options and opportunities that can be applied in the moment or move on if there is nothing to be done. Saves a lot of time!

Love all you can in these moments,

Bryan Wagner
