Our anger awakens us out of complacency and into action. ~ DiosRaw
“It is wise to direct your anger towards problems–not people; to focus your energies on answers–not excuses.” – William Arthur Ward
In Zen and Tao the trick is not to HOLD angry, but still experience anger. Why? Because we don’t rid ourselves of anger, it’s a conditioned state that’s had thousands of years to establish itself in our systems. What gets problematic is holding anger or “BEING angry” as an ongoing experience. “Welcome to hell” is another way of describing being angry. We all know that state, it sucks.
One of my favorite bloggers was kind enough to post the first quote and it clearly defines the value of experiencing anger. All things have value. The site is truly amazing and seriously informational and inspirational. Check it out: https://diosraw0.wordpress.com/
The second quote speaks to application and focus, the area that feelings of anger can drive us towards if we maintain perspective. If I must experience anger then I need to find the value by applying it towards something, right?
Anger, like everything, has value and gives purpose if seen in the light of perspective.
Be well, take care of you.

I’ve had quite the evolution with this feeling… for a long time anger scared me and was an emotion I tried to avoid. Then it was a feeling that I felt so easily rose from me.Again, I attempted to control it. Then I took a class on it and learned that anger is a secondary emotion to sadness which stems from fear. Since this unraveling, I definitely look inwards when I feel anger bubbling and recognize its when I feel overwhelmed or overextended, not adhering to my own boundaries. It’s never over another person but has solely to do with myself. I appreciate the Zen and Tao perspectives on this topic Bryan. Anger was not an accepted emotion in our house growing up there I didn’t witness it modeled in a healthy way. I took it out on myself, internalized it and practiced many self destructive patterns and behaviors until my awareness rose 2 years ago. As with all healing, it is a process that required inspection and observation. Then grace, patience and compassion towards myself to learn how to express it in a healthy way. Thank you for writing about this, I always appreciate the reminders 😉

Thank you my friend. I think all our emotions are useful as experience and give us information we can use. It isn’t having the emotion, it’s hanging onto the emotion that drives suffering. It feels as though there is constant confusion concerning having emotions. I don’t find it’s a choice, emotions rise, at that point I may or may not choose a response. I simply cannot NOT be angry. I appreciate what you’ve shared. I agree!! Be well my friend, keep going!!!
