Peace from the Center

If we ourselves remain angry and then sing world peace, it has little meaning. First, our individual self must learn peace. This we can practice. Then we can teach the rest of the world. – 14th Dali Lama

I am always practicing coming back to the first person perspective. When I notice something happening “Out there” in the world, before I get all righteous and enthused about what other people need to do or how I can fix the big picture, I ask myself:

“How am I like that or doing that?” to put a check on my ego. Many times I have found the places where I need to embrace some changes, become that change, and then move from there. This helps me change, and most of the time brings me closer to understanding those things I criticize.

Take care of you and all you love,

Bryan

  1. Yeah this a great practice. Most times we only think things through after having attacked then we realize we are probably a contributing factor to it all. We must look at ourselves, complete the change we want in the world first in us, then naturally we will influence change externally.
