One of the best ways to view the future is in terms of acceptance and possibility. We can choose and plan a possibility knowing that other possibilities will happen. We are never surprised, disappointed, upset, annoyed, or angry when a possibility doesn’t happen. It’s just a possibility, not an actuality, right? We use future thoughts to prepare for possibility, while also welcoming all possibility. It might rain, it might not, it doesn’t matter because you will be there for either one.
Lately it has become more and more apparent that nothing ever goes exactly as planned. My mind has the disconcerting habit of making up a little scenario concerning the future. This doesn’t have to be any monumental event. It can be as simple as going to the grocery store. But ego’s little scenario is never linear and never unfolds as planned.
Or, just between you and me, perhaps my expectations are amazingly simple minded. I hate to say it but I do think that’s probably the crux of the matter. Conditioned personality makes up a scenario and then expects it to happen as planned. I seem to buy into that process a lot.
Not this time. I am fortunate in having friends in other countries and widely ranged in the U.S.A. It seems like all our Skype and phone interactions revolve around the challenges of the current global situation.
When asked about the possible future my answer is always “I DON’T KNOW. Period.
But I do know this. I am learning an amazing amount about the people I care about. They are committed to learning what they can from this current event and applying what they learned to what happens next.
They are not resisting what is by playing out future catastrophic events. They are smart and clever and know that they will do whatever is appropriate no matter what comes.
We find ways to show we care about each other. Several people, Terry, Simon, Carol, and David to mention a few, have set up ongoing meetings on ZOOM so we stay in visual and verbal contact. My friends Skype so we are always in visual contact. No, it’s not the same as being there, but we develop bonding in a different way. It’s subtle but it increases knowing that we care about each other.
My Blogging family has embraced the issue directly and continue to make suggestions, share their own experiences, talk about resolutions, and what really impacts me is they carry a sense of humor and compassion about the current situation. I bow deeply to those who blog!
My Facebook family has been so supportive. I have been excited writing because I usually write to music and am always seeking new stuff. I tend to use instrumentals because spoken words get listened to and are confusing. One of my friends, Lyudmila from Kazakstan, had posted a clip from GoGo Penguin. An amazing jazz band that I have been listening to every day. What a great sharing.
I encourage everyone to stay open to future possibility and probability. Know that you are totally capable of experiencing what ever comes. We know that because we are here after all the trials and tribulations that we have survived up to this point in time. We may wobble but we don’t fall down.
Take care of you, you are the only you we know!
